The purpose of this document is to explore the contributions of József Gát’s work and the effect it has on the field of piano performance and pedagogy. It is my hope that this document will help music educators become more aware of his piano pedagogical treatises and how these resources can be effectively used in piano instruction. It is my hope that this essay will help today’s music teacher see the possibilities of teaching with the adapted movements that are needed for students to play advanced repertoire without fatigue or pain. By teachers reading and becoming more familiar with the József Gát’s principles, the level of pedagogy and playing will increase. Students will be more proficient, and be able to master more difficult repertoire because of the knowledge of proper technical execution. This will also increase the effectiveness and versatility of our teaching.
